Tuesday August 27th marked the kickoff event in our new Pulse Speaker Series. More than 50 of eCELLAR’s clients and partners turned out to hear Andrew Adams, editor of the Wine Analytics Report by WineBusiness, discuss the trajectory of the 2024 DtC shipping channel. We are thrilled with the event’s initial success.
Adams discussed how much wine has been shipped in 2024, the value of the shipments, where it’s being shipped from, what’s being shipped and how these and other metrics compare to 2023. Here are just some of the takeaways:
- Year to date (through July) volume and value of shipments are down 10% and 5% respectively
- The value of DtC shipments from Napa and Sonoma are relatively flat for the 12 Months ended in June, but volume is down moderately for these two important wine regions.
- For the 6 months ending in June, only wines priced at $100 or higher are showing volume growth
- Visitation to nearly every wine country region is down from 2023, with Napa and Sonoma both down 5%
- Use of Texting in DtC sales and marketing efforts is accelerating rapidly
- DtC-related job offers are down significantly in 2024 from 2023.

The eCELLAR clients at the 1-hour presentation were the first to see all this date presented in one place. With the eCELLAR Pulse Speaker Series, we aim to continue to give our clients exclusive information, access to the top minds in the industry, and tools to help you sell more wine more efficiently and more profitably.
The next Pulse Speaker Event features Jennie Gilbert of RedChirp discussing Best Practices and Future Trends of Texting. We discovered in Andrew Adam’s presentation that the use of Texting (or SMS Marketing) is surging in the DtC sector of the wine industry. RedChirp is the leading text marketing platform servicing the wine industry. This next Pulse event is scheduled for October 3, 2024.
