Come Over October — It Calls Us Together with Wine

Date

Come Over October is a gentle pushback against the growing “Sober October” and “Dry January” movements that have gained steam and legitimacy over the past few years. Come Over October invites wine lovers to reserve the tenth month for gatherings with wine at the center; to remind friends, family and your consumers that wine has always been the beverage that brings people together.

With its own dedicated webpage, Come Over October is the brainchild of renown wine writer Karen MacNeil. Having posted on her Instagram page last January that she thought Dry January was “self-righteous” and “Puritanical”, the response was 17,000 comments, likes and shares. She hit a nerve. That nerve was in particular attached to a large number of Millennials and Zoomers who planned to adhere not just to Dry January but also to a “Sober October”.

MacNeil bristled, understanding that the opposite of “sober” is drunk and knowing this implication was both juvenile, unfair, but also impactful. She wanted to do something to raise the profile of wine.

That led her to Gino Colangelo, founder of PR Firm Colangelo & Partners and Kimberley Noelle Charles, another veteran wine marketing and PR pro. Together they formed COME TOGETHER—A COMMUNITY FOR WINE, LLC. The new non-profit company first project is Come Over October.

And It’s Gonna Be Big…MacNeil, America’s best-selling wine author, and two of the most accomplished wine marketing professionals are putting their full weight behind Come Over October. The planned annual event beginning this coming October seeks to encourage wine lovers, restaurants, wineries, social groups, influencers, and everyone else to invite friends and family over to enjoy wine and celebrate the act of coming together in person with wine at the center.

Come Over October is an invitation to celebrate the dying art of Getting-Together with the oldest social lubricant in existence: Wine.
